Q: I want to open a christian bookstore, how do I get started?
What kind of business grants should I apply for, inventory, where do I go to get that? How do I find the kind of bookstore I want?
A: ask god.
Q: I want to own my own Christian bookstore/cafe. Do you think there is a market for this type of business?
This has been a dream of mine for a very long time. Although I want to gear it more so to Christian teens, all teens are welcome. The reason I wanted it to be for Christian teens is so they can have a place where they can go and hang out and have fun with friends in a safe and Christian enviorment, grab a lite snack, get some coffee or whatever, and maybe see local christian bands on the weekends. I want to serve our teens with the love of God.
A: I don't know about the rest of the world but I know my friends and I would LOVE to have a place like that in our area. So, I imagine there are at least some other people out there who would enjoy it, too!
Q: Catholics have you ever asked at a Christian bookstore/gift shop if they sell Rosaries?
What was their reaction?
I'm curious if the response is the same in different places
A: Most Protestant owned gift shops sell rosaries, all Protestants do not suffer profound ignorance and prejudice on the matter of rosaries. I have noticed all the Protestant gift shops I have been in do not peddle hate literature, by that I mean Chick Publications, or Dave Hunt, or similar hate propaganda. More Protestants are discovering the rosary as a legitimate devotion that brings a person closer to Jesus.
Q: How old do you have to be to work at Family Christian Bookstore?
A: In the 90s, I worked there for 7 years. I think you have to be 16. I would highly recommend not working there. You get minimum wage and they expect you to work sometimes without getting paid. The christian retail business is very corrupt.
Q: I own a Christian Bookstore and I'm looking for Bibles in a wood case wholesale. Can anyone help?
I heard that they are called Memorial Bibles.I found some retail, but I can't find any wholesale. They are being used now in place of sending flowers to families that have lost a love one. They are regular Holy Bibles engraved in a wooden box or case.
I'm located in Ohio
A: You might get a better bargain if you buy the Bibles and cases from different vendors. Try the following for wood cases ...

Q: Creative, Unique names for a Christian Bookstore??
I am starting a new Christian bookstore in North Carolina and I was trying to think of some interesting names. The bookstore will sell books, cds, and it will have a little cafe ( Maybe a seperate name for the cafe?? ) in it also. I want the name to be sort of Biblical or have some sort of Biblical reference. Thank you and God bless!
A: His grace books
Q: Has anyone else be discriminated against by Christian bookstore employees?
I am a Christian who happens to be nineteen and likes Christian rock music. Every time I go into a Christian bookstore, the employees either 1) follow me around as if I am going to steal something or 2) look at me with disgust at the check out counter or 3) talk to me like I am five-years-old.
am I the only one?
A: Just remember, we wrestle not with flesh and blood but principalities and powers in high places. Hold your head up. You know who you are and who you have believed.

Q: Why does my local 'Christian' bookstore contains lots of pamphlets blasting certain Christian denominations?
I can almost understand the anti Islam pamphlets, but anti JW, LDS, SDA (which I am), Pentacostal/Holiness, and Catholic pamphlets I cannot. Maybe It should say Baptist book store instead of "Christian" Bookstore. Or Anti everything but Baptist/Methodist Bookstore. How can it be a "Christian" book store and blast other denominations? They sure don't mind taking our money. What is the best course of action? Boycott, hide the pamphlets, ignore it, confront them?
A: There was a bookstore similar to the one you describe that I and my family shopped at years ago. I don't remember there being a lot of pamphlets, but I know they had a large section dedicated to books about cults and was perplexed to see how many were anti-Catholic. Even though we were not Catholic at the time, I knew enough to know that Catholics were Christian.
They can't say Baptist bookstore because it isn't just Baptists and the store isn't just for Baptists. There is a vitriolic strain that runs through most of the denominations and is usually even more pronounced in the "non-denominational" churches. More than being for something, these people are against everything else.
To some degree it is a problem of defining beliefs. Each denominational split occurred as the result of disagreement over some issue(s). Some of the issues that have caused rifts have been serious and some have been downright silly. So the question for many becomes, which differences are minor or even matters of preference and which differences are serious insurmountable obstacles? In other words, what makes a person Christian?
A previous answerer mentioned that every denomination's printing catalog includes such things. The difference is that when I go into a Catholic bookstore, I know before I walk in that it is a Catholic bookstore. There will be some books of general Christian interest but I will also find many things that are specifically Roman Catholic. The problem with the store that you mention is that they do a very poor job of targeting their clientele by using a broad term like Christian but then trying to narrowly define it.
I know enough about JW and LDS to know why even reasonable mainline Protestants would strongly disagree with them and wouldn't expect a general Christian bookstore to cater to them. And I know what the anti-everybody else group hates about Pentecostals and Catholics. I don't know much about SDA (other than Saturday Sabbath), but I suspect that alone is enough to put you on their list. Any defense of a Sunday Sabbath is extra-biblical and it's easier for them to tell you you're going to hell than to acknowledge just how many of their beliefs and practices pre-date the reformation. I remember when we still belonged to a Protestant Church, someone tried to explain to me that Sunday worship and Sola Scriptura fit together because Sunday was the seventh day of the week but the Jews had screwed it all up with an eight day system of calculating weeks.
As to what you should do about the bookstore in question, my first suggestion would be to shop somewhere else if that is a possibility. If the bookstore is a chain or part of a larger entity, you could contact somebody higher up the chain to air your concern/complaint. If it is an independent, you could talk to the owner(s) if you know enough about your own faith to adequately defend it. Don't expect any great changes from such a conversation but you might at least get them to think about their position.
+Peace be with you+
To monsieurbabyturtle: I know what you mean about the Eastern Orthodox churches not being singled out. Most Protestant Americans don't even know they exist. Some people came to speak during missionary week at a Baptist church and talked about preaching in Russia and planting churches in a mid-sized city that didn't have a single church. During Sunday school everyone was talking about what great work these people were doing and wasn't it sad that these poor Russian people didn't have a single church. When I asked, "What about the Russian Orthodox Church?" I got a dozen blank stares. At that time I was in semi-regular correspondence with somebody from that part of Russia and I knew that the Orthodox Church had survived the years of Soviet oppression and many people in that area were very glad to be able to openly practice their faith.
To GRANNYOF5: we also have a Family Christian Bookstore near us. When we first moved to the area I don't recall seeing anything Catholic (nor anti-Catholic for that matter). 6 or 7 years ago they carried a few things like what you describe. Now, they have a small corner of the store dedicated to Catholic items. The growth in floor space corresponds to the growth in the Mexican population where I live. Even my local Wal-mart carries a few decidedly Catholic items (especially around Easter).

Q: what are the store hours for heaven and earth christian bookstore in midlothian virginia?
A: I would suggest calling them.
My guess is that they're open until the rapture.
Q: How can a bookstore be Christian when everything in it is Made in China almost as in most chains?
Many if not most Christian items and gifts fond in Christian bookstores or gift stores are Made in China. Even crosses. Many of these Chinese laborers probably have not really even been missioned to. They are buying possibly from the sweatshops or factories with questionable work conditions. Not "Christian" conditions at all or what Jesus would have prescribed of how workers should be treated.
The abuses of labor in China are widely known (Yes abuses, as in human rights abuses. Being made to work 12 hours or more, being beat, raped. Working around dangerous chemicals like lead. Widespread abuses) and some would question the ethics of paying people so little for and then making so much profit of them.
I think this is very wrong and hypocritical, how can it be Christian?
A: atheists hate this but china has a HUGE christian population !! the Christians there just keep it to themselves because the ATHEIST government will often exile, torture, or imprison them for saying it publicly. that is what atheists in power do.
but if we stop buying chinese products then christians there will starve as well as what I said above
Q: Does anyone know anything about calling on Christian Bookstores?
Not just the big ones (Family Christian, etc) Specifically the major distributors involved who would service all the regional and mom and pops. Any additional insights you may be able to offer a start up?
Thanks
Thanks?
A: Sounds like you are referring to new books. But, some of the second hand book stores would amaze you at what they have. One special place in my town has a wonderful assortment of mostly books with a little age on them. And some older books. The man sells them very reasonably. If you buy very much; he'll give you a good amount off of that.
These store are all over the place.
Q: Crossroads Christian Bookstore?
Aren't you supposed to meet the Devil at the crossroads to sell him your soul? Why would a Chrisitian bookstore be called Crossroads? Is there some other aspect or meaning to the story that I'm missing? Just curious.
A: Crossroads is where Ralph Macchio can shred more on the guitar than Steve Vai. The Karate Kid totally makes Vai look like a n00b playing Guitar Hero!
