Q: islamic religion?
i'm american and i guess i'm christain but i'm not really babtized in and sertain creed like babtist catholic etc. i am very religous and i have thought about converting but i dont know what i would have to do for my faith after i converted the islamic religion fasinanates me i would really like to know more about it i havent read the quran yet but i will but can anyone explain what i would have to do to convert and when converted what would i have to do to keep my beliefs strong?

A: To convert to islam, one must say the shahada. This is a testament of faith. It acknowledges that God is the only one deserving of worship (not his Prophets, or anything else), and it acknowledges that Muhammad is the last of his Prophets, who was sent with the final revelation, the Qur'an. the shahada is: ashadu anla illaha illAllah, wa ashadu ana muhammadan abduhu wa rusulu. (I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped except Allah, and that Muhammad is his slave and Messenger)

A: Similarities: Both are monotheistic, that is they worship one God. However, the true God of Christianity is a Trinity (three persons in one). Both Islam and Catholicism have similar traditions like prayer, fasting and works of charity. They also share many similar moral teachings on marriage, sexuality and ethics. Differences: The origins of the Catholic Church are divine - Jesus Christ (the Son of God) instituted the Church to carry on His mission after He ascended to Heaven. The Islamic faith was a mixture of paganism, Christianity and Judaism which was started by a man named Mohammad. The Catholic Church has one center and source of authority - Jesus Christ - who speaks through the Church. Islam is splintered into different sects which teach sometimes contradictory things. A: i have actually just got married 2weeks ago and myself and my husband are both muslim. i am not up on it to much as i am english which means i was learning as i went but i can give u the bits i do no from myself my experiance and also quran first u are in a relationship with a man u like but u can never be even remotley in contact with one another ie no kissing touching etc then when the man decideds he wants to marry her he proposes and often meets with the girls family and they meet him and his and agree. Then the marriage takes place which is often in a masjid if both parties are from the islamic country altho it has to be in a registry office if they are not like with me and my egyption husband altho we can now go to masjid aswel The man has to agree to pay the woman a dowery (a payment) this is not to "buy" the woman but to show the respect for her and it is what the prophet used to do. He also agrees on an amount he will pay her if they devorce. The woman is to be asked 3times if she agrees to the marraige in order to make sure she wants to and then the marraige takes place like anyother really u agree will u take this as husband this as wife in islamic way etc.... Actually in a marriage a man has to look after his wife very well he is supposed to support her in everyway and he is to be the bread winner and to make her work or contribute if she doesnt want but he is also supposed to encorage her if she wants to work or school etc He must never lay a hand on her as some ppl think the only time he is permited is if she was to cheat on him and then he tried everything else and this was the last resort and even then he can not mark her it is to be just a tap. The man should treat her like a queen and make sure she has all that he has. He cant dress in designer and have her in rags for instance. Woman have alot of rights in islam and in marriage i no u said google isnt good but i used to put in womans rights in islam or marriage in islam and alot of stuff did come up for me. i hope i have helped a little altho i no not alot.

for an assessment which takes up about a year to complete, so its got to be good! also, any other suggestions to study are great... it can be any time in history (modern or ancient), a person or era or contrasts of era etc.. i can do anything. suggestions?

A: The choice depends upon you! For an assignment that is going to take a year to complete be sure to pick something that is of interest to you. (It's going to be a long hard year if you don't.) Then, there is the question of how you have to present it. Will it be a written essay or an oral report to your class? Some topics will fit one better than the other. Lastly, it will depend upon your nature. A philosophical or literary person might prefer to study Islam, but a practical or technical person might enjoy learning about the industrial revolution. If it were up to me I would probably pick a closed topic, one with time limits (a beginning and an ending) like the British industrial revolution, rather than an open ended one (always in flux) like Islam. Here is a suggestion: If any members of your family lived through a traumatic time, like a war, depression, natural disaster, the Holocaust, or whatever, it might be of interest to pick that event as your topic.

Q: Would you vote for a Muslim President that practiced the Islamic religion if one were running?
I find the steryotypes in the USA ridiculous, but wanted to know how others would feel if such a scenario ever occured. Joseph B, How is this question wrong? I stated that I see nothing wrong with it, but due to the answers stating that others do, you must admit that this would be an issue if it ever occurred.

A: I probably wouldn't. Not because I have any problem with their religion, but because I believe it is a moral imperative for this country to continue fighting Islamic extremism, and I think the possibility of a muslim president sympathizing with their lot is just plain too high. I also believe that supporting is a moral imperative for the US to continue support for the nation of Israel against her hostile aggressors and get the distinct feeling that pretty much any muslim president would beg to differ. I have no problem with muslims on a personal level, but I would definitely think twice before having one in charge of our nation's power and defenses. The good news is that there are no muslims running for president in '08 so it's all good.

Q: How do we know for historical fact that Muhammad existed and he was the founder of the Islamic religion?

A: Jesus lived a relatively short life and had little in the way of worldly accomplishments to call attention to him while he was alive. The earliest known writings about him date from long after his death. So the evidence that he was a real historical figure is sparse, but it's not nonexistent. Muhammad lived nearly twice as long as Jesus, and lived more recently by about six centuries. He achieved considerable military and political power during his lifetime. There is ample evidence of his historical reality from both Muslim and non-Muslim sources. Whether Jesus really was a prophet of God, or even God in human form, whether Muhammad really was a prophet of God, whether Christianity and Islam are religions based on divine truth -- those are matters of faith, not historical questions. But there is no doubt at all that Muhammad really lived, and there is little doubt that Jesus really lived.

A: I would say A. Given the nature of the religion, they're more than happy to kill you if you aren't interested in adopting their faith.

There is only one islam but several christian churches.

A: There is one Christian Church. Many denominations. One of the proofs that Christianity is real is all the false cults. After all, no one would bother to try to print a counterfeit $15.00 bill, would they? Islam is one of the many counterfeits.
