Inform yourself. It's easier than you might think.
Q: What do you think the mormon religion is about and what they worship?
I just wanted to know what people thought of this specific religion. I am a member of the Mormon church and I believe in it strongly so please so mean comments but feel free to express what you think.
A: I know you wanted to know what others thought of our church, the Mormons, but I can't stand the misconceptions! Those of you who would like to know more about what we believe or just want to ask a question of a real live Mormon just click on my picture and I would be glad to answer any of your question. I ask only that you be respectful and not rude.
I have included a copy of the 13 articles of faith that give an overview of what we believe:
1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated ccorrectly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Q: What is the purpose of the Mormon under garment and do you wear it all times?
We are friends with a Mormon couple and the wife wears under garments at all times. Does this get in the way with love making?
A: You got your answer on the phone baby.
Q: How long does a Sunday morning Mormon church service go?
I promised a mormon friend of mine that I would go to his church service this morning, but something has come up in the afternoon (around 1:30) and the service starts at 11 am. Should I cancel with my afternoon friend? Thanks.
I know this is incorrectly catagorized, but people won't stop spamming the religion and theology area, and I actually need a practical awnser as to the functioning of a church, not being religious myself.
A: There are 3 separate meetings each Sunday. One is called Sacrament meeting. It last about 1 hour 10 minutes. The second is called Sunday School. It last about 50 minutes. If you attend this, I would recommend attending Gospel Principles. This class is designed for visitors and people interested in learning about the LDS (Mormon) faith. The third meeting is called Priesthood (men) or Relief Society (women). I recommend attending all 3 meetings; however, if your 1:30 appointment cannot be changed, please feel free to leave when you have to. For your information, if your friend has invited you, feel honored. When people of any faith share something that means a great deal to them, they are letting you know you mean the world to them.
If you chose not to attend, I recommend visiting his church services again on a more convenient date.
Q: Would you vote for a Mormon vice president? Do you trust a Mormon to be president?
Would it be more of a liability to be a MORmON or a MUSLiM in this election?
.
A: There are currently no Muslims running.
As far as Mormonism, its not any crazier than the rest of the Christian groups.
How they could complicate the very simple words of Jesus to such an extent is beyond me.
Its in the Bible, we are all dumb*sses. I don't remember the scripture, and it does say it in a more eloquent manner than I just did, but it basically says we are all fools.
"Man is unfit even to direct his own path." "Man is constantly dominating man to his injury."
Like I said, more eloquent but just as d*mning of all of us. Jesus knew we were this stupid, so He simplified it down to two commands.
1) Love God with your whole mind, heart, body, and soul.
2) Love your neighbor as yourself.
That's it. That's all we have to do. Love each other.
And by the time the Christians were done with that, they had come up with modern religion. The most violent and powerhungry organizations on the planet, matched only by those created by Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.
So Mormon, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, etc. Who cares? They'll just screw it up anyway.
Q: What does have being a Mormon have to do with lack of sexual education?
I just asked on Yahoo, because this kid I know, who is 16, is absolutely clueless on sex, and someone suggested he might be a Mormon!
So now I am wondering, because I think that is his religion, Mormon,
don't they educate their kids on those issues?
A: Haha, well, so you know I am a Mormon. It is not Mormon belief that we be ignorant about sex, it is much more that we view sex as sacred. This kids parents may be leaving him in the dark, but that has nothing to do with being a Mormon.
The church does put a lot of emphasis on being spiritually clean and that includes abstinence until marriage. It is very important to the members of the church. So, although he may be sexual educated, he may be shy, or unwilling to talk about this subject.
And heads up, there are a lot of misconceptions about the LDS (mormon) faith, don't hesitate to ask. :)
Q: What do you know about the Mormon religion?
I am a mormon, and I've been very curious about what other people know/think about our religion. If you are mormon I would appreciate you commenting!
*We do not believe in having more than one wife
*We can watch TV and participate in the media
*We do believe in God, and Jesus Christ
*Yes, we are modest. But we don't wear floor length clothing and long sleeve shirts all the time.
:)
(Just to clear all of that up)
Thank you!

Q: how can you enlighten a mormon to the fact that their beliefs are ridiculous and unprovable?
someone close to me is a devout mormon, and has much potential if she would only leave this sect,as it stifles her creativity and freedom under loads of foolish dogma.how can i enlighten her?
A: You can't. They have to learn for themselves. It took me over 30 years to realize it was a load of bologna.
The information is out there, but truly devout mormons will rationalize it all away and rely on "faith."
As to how the LDS church can stifle freedom, how many young women are told to aspire to being anything they want in life, rather than being encouraged to marry a worthy priesthood holder and have babies? How many are told that if they want a career instead of marriage that this is absolutely acceptable and worthy?
Freedom isn't necessarily the freedom to "sin" that mormons picture people wanting.
Q: How prevalent is the impact of the Mormon religion in the Utah business environment?
Also, irrespective of the business impact, does anybody know what percentage of the Utah population actually considers themselves Mormon? I have heard people from other parts of the country who have traveled there on business say its just a really different place culturally.
(NOTE: I am not passing judgment here in any way. I am just genuinely interested in any perceptions any of you may have.)
A: Mormon population is around 62% based on church statistics. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_2886596 It used to be more like 70%, but the non-Mormon move-in rate is high enough to result in a gradual decline.
Some of the 62% have not gone to church in years, so, the actual church going rate is probably no more than 50%. However, that is still quite high as a cultural effect.
Also, in Salt Lake, the non-Mormon move-in and percentage is higher. In rural areas, the Mormon percentage is higher.
The cultural impact is noticable, in the sense that prevailing attitudes about alcohol, tobaco and sex will be different than you might find in California or Texas.
In many ways, the impact on business is not significant. Just like anyone else, Mormon's look for business that offer the goods or services they want at good prices and with good quality.
On the other hand, there is the tendency to "do business with who you know". If two businesses offer similar goods, services, quality and prices, then the Mormon owned business would have something of an edge, just due to the social networking.
Q: Is the Mormon Church the right boogeyman for gay marriage going down in California?
I saw a Yahoo news article yesterday, gays are attacking the Mormon Church, saying they conspired to strike down gay marriage. However, I also heard that 70% of blacks voted against gay marriage. So, are the Mormons really to blame? Or did overwhelming black turnout for Obama and his "compassionate" socialism have the unintended consequence of striking down gay marriage?
Oh the tangled web we weave, eh?
A:
This is something that I have noticed among many of my black friends....nothing racial intended....but when the topic of homosexuality comes up ....most of them regard it as a choice; flat out.
So, I do think your theory is very possible....and definitely ironic. Mormons would've voted against gay marriage and for McCain anyway....at least most of them b/c they usually consider themselves Republicans.
Q: How come that one lady called me a mormon?
So I asked a legit question about "married life" and she called me a mormon.
What gives?
A: IDK?
You've been called a number of things on this post.
Most of them not at all accurate.
But, Mormon? I don't think so.............................lol
Upon further review, maybe it has to do with your traditional , family, together, approach to marraige.
I mean afterall, there is no one who examines the vagrancies, er, variations of marriage quite like you do.
Maybe that led her to the conclusion that you were of the Mormon faith.
You do know how traditional they are............................
I think it was meant as a compliment..................
Go with that one.........
BTW I want to get a top contributor tag as well.
How do you do that?
Q: Is the Mormon Church z Most Concerned About the Gay Marriage Issue Because of Its Doctrine Marriage In Heaven?
z = The
The Mormon church maintains that married couples will remain married in heaven and will populate new planets. It goes then that gay couples can't produce children or populate new plants. .
S gay couple still will be married in heaven?
A: Mormons only believe that those who are married in a temple by the proper authority and who keep the commandments (or who receive and accept the ordinances after they are dead) will have the ability to procreate in the next life.
It has more to do with earth than with the next life. The family is the central unit and homosexual marriage degrades that unit.
Q: I know being Mormon or Catholic are forms of christianity, but whats the difference?
Whats the difference of being Christan, Mormon, and Catholic?
I know they all are Christian but what are the differences?
A: If you define being a Christian as one who believes in Christ then truly both the Catholics and Mormons are Christian. If you define being a Christian as one who belongs to Christ's true church then only one can be right.
I am a Mormon, in other words a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The official name is important because we do feel that this is his church and that it bears his name for that reason.
You see, we believe that after Jesus and his Apostles died that the true church of Christ was lost to mankind. Why? For several reasons. First, God gives men authority to act in his name through the Priesthood. This Priesthood must be handed down by one who holds it to other worthy members. If this was not so, then just anyone could baptize another person and it would be alright, but God is not so disorganized. Everything is done in order including things such as baptism which is a necessary ordinance in order to enter into the kingdom of God. The Priesthood is only given to those who are worthy to receive it, and is given as a sacred ordinance. This gives the Priesthood holder the right and authority to baptize, confirm the gift of the Holy Ghost, give blessings etc. Anciently the Apostles of Jesus Christ had this authority, but because of wickedness or because of the changes that were made in Christ's church such as sprinkling instead of immersion for baptism, it was either not passed down or was lost.
Many things were changed in Christ's church such as the interpretation of the Trinity, the mode of baptizing, believing in revelation, prophets, temples etc. For this reason a restoration of Christ's church was necessary.
In the early 1800's God saw fit to establish the Church of Jesus Christ again on the earth. He did so through Joseph Smith who was called by God to restore the gospel to the earth and to be a prophet.
Though Joseph Smith went through much persecution and finally suffered death at the hands of men who sought his life for declairing that God had called him to establish the church again to the earth, he was true to all that God had asked him to do, and sealed his testimony of the restoration of the gospel of Christ with his own death. Joseph Smith was finally murdered by his enemies because of what he believed in.
The church continued on and other prophets were called to speak for God and to lead his church because the Priesthood authority was not lost with Joseph Smith. All of the 12 Apostles and other worthy men now held it. Their is a prophet today on the earth. He is President Thomas S. Monson. He as the prophets of old were, is guided by revelation to lead the people in the ways that God would have them do.
When Joseph Smith was on the earth he was led by God to translate ancient scripture which had been preserved and set forth by God to come into the world in the last days. This was done, and the Book of Mormon came forth. It stands as a witness of Jesus Christ and helps to support the Bible, not to tear it down. The only way to know if it is true scripture is to read it. Heresay from others will not do it. Every person has the duty and priviledge to find out for themselves by reading it and praying about it.
Joseph Smith also wrote 13 articles of faith which simply and concisely state an overview of what we believe in. I am including them here so that you can read them for yourself.
Though we love our Catholic friends and all sincere worshipers of God and his son Jesus Christ we do believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ. We do not say this in arogance but in sincerity. We invite and welcome all who wish to come and enter in to our Savior Jesus Christ's true church with us.
I hope this helps you to better understand. A great site to go to for more information is mormon.org.

Q: What do those Mormon guys that go to your door wear?
They have a certain look, like the short sleeve white shirt with a tie, but what else do they wear? I want to be a mormon guy for halloween.
A: Most people got it so far:
White, (typically short-sleeved) button down collared shirt. Black slacks, Black suit jacket, the black name tag is a must! It says: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (and the name of the missionary) Elder "So-and-so".
Comb your hair in a really conservative manner (might as well part it on the side). Carry a bible. Um.. what else... oh, can't forget the bike!
What would REALLY fulfill the part, is convincing one of your friends to go in the same outfit! (Mormon missionaries always have a companion with them).
Q: How can I find Mormon friends? I live isolated it seems like and they are the only ones I can relate to?
I just don't know because I live in an area full of non Mormon people, I'm not sure if there are any, my parents moved here, it wasn't my choice, but I'd like to go to church and to make some friends.
A: Go to http://www.lds.org and go to the top part of the page. The top link is "About the Church". Put your mouse on that, and it will pull up a menu. About halfway down it says "Find a meetinghouse". Click on that. Input your address and it will find the nearest meetinghouse for you. It will list the meetinghouses in the area and which wards (congregations) meet there. Then you can contact the ward leaders and find out which ward you're in and attend then.
