Q: Mormon Faith?
Does it seem that Mormons are required to have a greater Faith then Christians?
Mormons need to believe in God added additional Scriptures (Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenents, and Pearl of Great Price), They also believe in Modern Prophets and Apostles, in Temples, in getting Sealed in the Temple for Time and Eternity. The list goes on.
Christians, believe in the Bible (as do Mormons), they believe in Dead prophets and Apostles. The Scripural Cannon is Closed.
Which one requires greater faith?
A: Faith is the hope we have but can't see or prove it.
Faith without works is dead. James 2
Mormons are Christians, we believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died for our sins and three days after rose in his own body.
Actually Protestants are the only ones who believe in sola scriptura...and they interpret the trinity not by the bible but on the creeds at Nicea etc.
Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Churches believe in tradition is more important than the bible alone and the Catholics which have more members than all the Protestant churches combined believe that what The Pope issues out is more important than the bible.
Q: In the Mormon faith, do children have God Parents? How are the "God Parents" decided on?
My friends are Mormon, and they have asked another Mormon couple to be what I would call a God Parent, to take care of their children should anything happen to them. I asked them why they did not pick my husband and I, in which they replied that Mormons do not have God Parents, and an Elder in the Mormon religion is the only person allowed to take care of the children upon the death of the parents.
A: God parents have a special role in the baptism of an infant. They are witnesses who promise to see that the child is raised in the church. Since Mormons do not baptize infants, the role does not exist. We do bless infants. Those men who stand in the circle may have a role in the child's development.
Q: Conservatives: Has your opinion of Mitt Romney changed since his speech regarding his Mormon faith?
And do you think the speech helped him or not?
Personally, I think it was a good speech and probably helped. My issue with him was NOT his faith, but his propensity for flip-flopping on important, conservative issues. What do you think?
A: It was a good speech, I like Romney, and every Mormon I know has been a very nice, honest and all around wonderful person.
Of course Harry Reid is a mormon so I guess they have their share of sleazy SOBs too.
Romney being a Mormon does not bother me in the least.
His flip-flopping is an issue but he has owned up to it during the debates.
What I like about Romney is his understanding of Business.
What concerns me about Romney is his lack of foriegn policy experience. All these questions about war directed to him always shows him to have the "deer in the headlights look." He also says he will consult with lawyers and others to see what options are available to the president should some something happen. This is what any president should do. But it is not what you should say in a debate.
In a debate you need to say--"I will consult with my advisors and then decide on a course of action that is in the best interest of OUR COUNTRY be that sanctions in the UN or with a coalition of our allies or some other action."
When he mentions lawyers, and experts he comes across as a person with little self confidence in his foriegn policy views--this is a NO NO for a REPUBLICAN.
The dims can get away with stupid statements all day for their entire presidency just like they have done in their debates. We need to have a course of action that backs up the talk. Not just more talk.
I still like Guilliani, He seems like he knows how to get down in the trenches with the democrats and counter their attacks.
Thompson is okay---
Huckebee is just too much of an unknown, and I don't like his stand on illegal immigrants children getting in state tuition at the expense of Americans from other states.
Ron Paul would have been good about fifty years ago. But his utter inability to realize that if we don't help the IRAQIS the IRANIANS will help themselves to IRAQ and the rest of the middle-east irrates me to no end.
Q: A question for Mormons, why does the Mormon faith baptise the ones who have passed on (the Dead)?
I ask this with respect I never really understood this part, Baptism of the dead who are Mormon or not of the Mormon faith.
Thank you for your replies!.
A: It is a saving ordinance. I don't know why it couldn't be done in an afterlife instead of by proxy, but so it is.
BTW. Baptism for the dead is something that was done by the early Christians and recorded by the Early Christian Fathers.
...John A. Tvedtnes writes:
“...That baptism for the dead was indeed practiced in some orthodox Christian circles is indicated by the decisions of two late fourth century councils. The fourth canon of the Synod of Hippo, held in 393, declares, "The Eucharist shall not be given to dead bodies, nor baptism conferred upon them." The ruling was confirmed four years later in the sixth canon of the Third Council of Carthage..."
Q: Who else is fed up with the bigotry of the left regarding Mitt Romney's Mormon faith?
This is embarrassing. The hatred and bigotry of the left is startling.
No scipro, why don't you define it for me?
Mitt Romney leads in Iowa....I don't think the evangelicals are whom he is addressing.
A: That's would be funny if it wasn't totally ignorant.
Its the bigotry of evangelicals Romney has to overcome.
Why do you think he gave this speech today? To win over people like me?
Do a little research into what the "real" Christians think about Mormons before you spew any more nonsense.
Q: Mitt Romney is planning a speech to address his Mormon faith. Do you see anything wrong with this picture?
What is due to the fact that Romney feels the need to do this? The Constitution is clear about no religious affiliation being part of the resume to become president. Is it mainly because Romney is a Republican and that's where the majority of the evangelical Christians are associated with? Would you blame it on the Bush campaign in 2000, basically calling themselves the "God party"? There has been a huge uprising of religion and politics crossing paths. Why do you think this is?
A: I don't think he should have to defend his religion. Isn't that what America is all about? Freedom of religion? Who cares.
Q: How do people of the mormon faith respond to its members struggling with the issue of abortion?
And also what teachings present Mormons viewpoints on abortion. (i know they are against it, but i was wondering what backs this fact up?)
Thanks
edit sorry i must not have made myself clear. I know they are against abortion, i just want to know how they would support a person who was considering an abortion such as a helpline etc
A: If a person that is LDS is considering abortion, they should speak with their bishop first. Except in cases of endangerment to the mother, rape, or incest - abortion is treated the same as murder. That means any member that recieves an abortion or pays for someone to recieve one that does not fall under the listed exceptions is excommunicated (just as all murderers are).
I would like to clarify, btw. Normally, Pinkadot makes good points. But on this she is wrong at one point. Deformation or lack of ability of child to survive does not fall under the exceptions. This is because doctors are often wrong, there are many, many cases of doctors saying the child is severely deformed or won't live, and then the child is born healthy. That is also why, even in cases of endangerment to the mother, rape and incest, abortion is not the automatic answer. The couple (or woman in case of rape) is expected to prayerfully approach the decision so that they can know the will of the Lord in their particular situation
Q: How embellished is Glenn Beck's testimony of his personal conversion to the Mormon faith?
I've now heart 6 versions of it since 2002. Each one is progressively ornate. Soon he will come to Salt Lake City (in front of a huge crowd) to film and record it for DVD sales.
Is this appropriate?
When I was a Mormon, a testimony was a sacred and private matter. Today, it's becoming popular to get fame and profit from it.
Will he one day sell his garments on eBay, and secretly send the money raised to feed Oprah Winfrey's abused students in Africa?
A: That's a bit harsh. Just because he has shared his testimony and increasingly more details is no reason to bash him. Where's the love? Choose the Right, dude.
Q: How is the concept of marriage different in the Mormon faith vs. the Catholic faith?
A: The concept of marriage is different from Mormons and EVERY other religion... marriages performed in the Holy Temples will be eternal. No other religion/church holds the authority to bind a marriage together for eternity, than the LDS church.
That is what sets us apart from everyone else, our marriages (and families) last forever. Everyone elses end when they die.
Q: Why does the Mormon faith seem constantly under attack?
I have never come closely aquainted with people of Mormon faith, nor do I have a great understanding of their spiritual beliefs.Yet, in recent years, waves of objection and sometimes uproar against the Mormon faith has become so much more frequent than average Atheists. What has gone wrong? Why are so many, so rigid in their objections? Please explain a little if you can.Thanks.
A: From the perspective of an outsider, this is my brief experience with coming across Mormon faith: They are good people; a lot of them give their lives for their faith. I respect this very much. But...I used to live in Taipei for a long period of time, during this time, I came across many Mormon youth who had come to Asia to preach their faith.
One incident that struck me negatively was a certain day when I witnessed a group of 2 Mormon youths (early 20's) approaching a Taiwanese man on the subway (also known as the MRT). This man was quietly reading his newspaper when they interrupted him (this is not acceptable etiquette-wise in Taiwan and was obviously embarrassing to this middle-aged man in the crowded compartment) to speak about their faith. I looked on, in awe at the profoundness of their go-get-it approach. A few minutes later, they noticed me (a white female foreigner) and obviously wanted to talk to me too. When Sister Something and the other Sister something approached I felt quite uncomfortable and felt like a was being interrogated. I then asked them how their evangelization was going. They then explained how each team was assigned a certain line of the subway system to meet potential followers. I was surprised at this, because according to the local laws, no political party or any other organization has the power to use the subway system for purposes other than traveling. What they were pursuing was clearing outside regulations. Not only this, but the method they used to interact with locals was not exactly what I call "localzied". Anway, I still believe that Mormons are good-hearted people. The only thing I would encourage them to do is "strive for communion with other Christians".
Q: Since the Mormons are baptizing everyone into the Mormon faith back to Adam and Eve by proxy, have they ?
baptized Hitler into the Mormon faith
A: Regardless of whether one is baptized vicariously by proxy in a Mormon temple, that person still has the ability and freedom in the next life, to accept or reject the baptism. Additionally, the sins committed in this life by the deceased will still cause them to be accountable before God for those sins. Jesus Christ will be the judge of our sins and crimes.
Q: What do you think about the Mormons (LDS) baptizing your dead relatives into the Mormon faith?
A: We don't baptze them into our faith. We just baptise them. We believe it's necessary for salvation/exaltation. We also believe that they have the choice to accept or reject it.
Q: Would you disqualify a Presidential Candidate just because of his Mormon Faith?
A: ummmm no. Remember the first ammendment. That would be a violation.
Q: Why did people shun Mitt Romney for Mormon faith and not Obama who is from Church from Hell?
A: The news media..of course.
Q: What is the main differences between the Mormon faith and mainstream Christianity?
A: Just glancing at most of these post they are dead wrong while a few are accurate. If you really want to know about the LDS church you might want to get your information from a valid source like ww.lds.org and www.mormon.org. There's a lot of false information about Mormons out there. If you want to know the truth about the church then you should probably ask the mormons.
