Q: How much do mormon garments cost?
I really want to get a pair and found out you have to join the LDS church to get some. I am considering doing that but don't wanna find out I can't afford em and join for nothing.

A: Oh for heaven sake! Why would anyone want to join our church just to get some temple garments? They're less than $10 a pair. But that's just the monetary cost. The rest might be too high for you.

Q: Would a jack mormon wear garments?
I share a locker-room with a girl who wears mormon garments. Initially I thought she was a Mormon, but then as I got to know her she drinks coffee, alcohol , is divorced and cusses! It sounds as if she comes from that background from comments she's made, but my question is why would you do all kinds of things against the mormon church rules but then still follow the guidance of wearing the garments? Any ideas?

A: She probably is trying to put on a front for her family/friends! Believe it or not mormons can look for the outline of the garment from on top of your clothing (esp thin clothing). It a tell tale sign! Some mormons call it the "eternal smile"...lol... I know my ex parents were oh so good at telling if you were wearing your garments!! uggg stupid.

Q: How do I clean the skid marks off my Mormon temple garments?

A: You only wish you had garments with skid marks. ;-)

Q: where can I buy mormon garments?
If someone could get me some or tell me where to get some I can pay a reasonable amount. Thanks

A: If you don't have a recommend signed by your Bishop, you can't buy them. In other words, if you're not Mormon you can't buy them and if you are you probably wouldn't be asking.

Q: Does Deseret Industries really recycle used mormon temple garments (mormon underwear)?
Does Deseret Industries really recycle used mormon temple garments (underwear) to other needy mormon familys?

A: Nope. Huh, a Mormon underwear question I haven't seen before. Cool. YAWN

Q: Do the mormon garments come in assorted colors?
If not, would it be ok to dye them afterward? Yeah, white is pure until they get skidmarks.

A: White for regular members. Brown and Green for military that are going to be deployed or are deployed. If they are at home, they are expected to wear the white unless they are on manuevers. You are not supposed to dye them. Supposedly you need to cut the symbols out and burn them. At least that's what my mom used to do. I don't know if she Pay Lay Ale'd over them or not while they burned.

Q: mormon temple garments?
Does the Book of mormon reference these or is it more like just a religious ritual type thing that isn't directly reference in the book? btw-i know some mormons don't like public discussions about the garments, but I'm just curious--i hope i haven't offended anyone. love yahoo: thanks for the link so basically, there are references to various sacred garments in the book, and the temple garments are a kind of symbolism of those in a way? (sorry if i'm misunderstanding, but i'm trying)

A: Garments...yes, they are sacred to us so we don't talk about them a lot. But as a tangible symbol, they do come up so it's not strange that you're asking. I have always explained that my garments are a symbol of a covenant that I made with God. They help me to remember to be modest in dress and actions (modest, I belive means not covering every part of me up, but not using extreme styles and being "conservative" in dress). It is an outward demonstration of an inward committment... A lot of different religions have some form of clothing that they use for religious purposes: -Jews put tassels on their cloaks and wear yarmulkes on their heads -Muslims wear "hijab" -Zoroastrians also have sacred underclothes -Buddhist monks wear robes of a saffron colour, the colour being sacred I feel that by wearing a garment under my clothes, it's a more personal committment. I don't have to share that information with anyone. As well, I wear it all the time. In this way I am able to remember my covenants all the time, not just when I am sitting in a chapel. I hope that this wasn't too cryptic and I hope that it helped.

Q: What exactly are these "markings" on Mormon garments I keep hearing about?
And why are they to be cut out, and how/why are they disposed? My fiance is a Jack Mormon - [[ A person who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but seldom or never practices their religion. Unlike ex-Mormons or anti-Mormons, Jack Mormons usually support the goals and beliefs of the church and maintain friendships with practicing Mormons, but for reasons of their own choose not to attend church services and activities. Jack Mormons may also indulge in activities discouraged by the church, such as drinking alcohol, smoking, and premarital sex. Jack Mormon equivalents in other religions are "Christmas and Easter Christians" and "Yom Kippur Jews" ]] - urbandictionary.com - However he insists he will change his ways. I decided to do a lil research of my own.. thanks for the input! <33 Sacred underwear.. what? Not trying to be a bttch, I guess I don't get it, what makes them sacred? why sacred undies of all things? If possible throw some info my way - knowledge is POWER!

A: 1. Mark of the Square (right breast): represents "exactness and honor" in keeping the commandments and covenants of God. 2. Mark of the Compass (left breast): symbolizes "an undeviating course leading to eternal life; a constant reminder that desires, appetites, and passions are to be kept within the bounds the Lord has set; and that all truth may be circumscribed into one great whole." 3. Navel Mark: represents "the need of constant nourishment to body and spirit." 4. Knee Mark: suggests "that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is the Christ". (these are the words of former Church President David O. McKay)

Q: Would Jesus smite those who make a profit off of Mormon Garments?

A: Only the satanic drycleaners get whacked

Q: If you are a Mormon and have forgotten to pack your under garments for an overseas trip; is it ok to borrow ?
a set from your friend?

A: Ew - who would want to borrow someone else's underwear? Mormon or not?

Q: I was a mormon, and my boyfriend found my old temple garment (mormon underwear) and he's going to leave me?
I was a mormon, and my boyfriend found my old temple garment in my closet (mormon underwear) and now he's saying going to leave me and our soon to be born child because he's afraid that the baby is going to be raised mormon. I have no one else to turn to and my family and old friends don't like either me or him after I turned away from the church. I miss my old way of life..

A: I call shenanigans!

Q: Why do mormons wear temple garments? (which are special mormon underwear)?
Why do mormons wear temple garments? (which are special mormon underwear) What do they look like and what function(s) do they serve?

A: They are to remind us of the covenants we make with the Lord when we go to the Temple.

Q: I am a nursing student and I was wondering about the mormon sacred garments?
We have done cultural presentations in school that dealt with special healthcare considerations for those of a different culture (Chinese, Korean, American Indian, etc.) but did not focus at all on cultural practices based on religion. My question is, according to my understanding, the sacred garments cannot be taken off by anyone who is not at the same level in the church as the person wearing them (not sure what this means either), but in the event of a medical emergency when no such person was present, what would the best course of action be if the person needed a procedure done that required removing the garments? Also, how would the average person know the significance of the garments, is there some way of notifying other people that they are not to remove the garments?

A: We are counselled to wear the garment "appropriately" night and day. So this implies that there are times (such as hospitalization) when wearing a garment is inappropriate and impractical. As a nurse (and thank you for your sensitivity!) you would simply remove the garment from your patient and then help them dress in a robe. We appreciate if you don't drop it on the floor, rather place it in a bag for their family to collect. If you need to cut them off your patient, that's okay too, but please give the pieces back to the family, don't just throw them out. I know, it sounds strange, but that's what you should do. But sure, it can be removed by medical professionals in the case of unconciousness. It is sacred, but it is a symbol of a covenant..not like we're wearing cotton armour or like that. We try to wear them so that people don't generally realize that we're wearing them...so don't feel bad that you don't realize that it's a Mormon patient when you first see him/her. That is really, really nice of you to be concerned and sensitive. You are going to be a great nurse!

Q: What if, as a temple going mormon, you find your garments super uncomfortable and instead buy hanes?
http://www.exmormon.org yes mamabear, i was very aware of what my name means in arabic. You're only the second person to have realized it though.

A: Could you just imagine Michael Jordan doing a Mormon Garments commercial? that would rule. I'm guessing hanes are much more comfy

Q: what is the sacred symbol on the mormon temple garments ?

A: Like you said, they are sacred, so we can't really talk about what the symbols represent, but here is what we can share. The word "garment" has a distinctive meaning to Latter-day Saints. Members who have received the ordinance of the temple endowment wear a white ceremonial undergarment. Members wear the garment under their regular clothing for the rest of their lives, day and night, to remind them of the sacred covenants they have made with God. It is an outward expression of an inward covenant and symbolizes Christlike attributes in one's mission in life. The white garment symbolizes purity and helps assure modesty and respect for the attributes of God. Scripture and ancient tradition point toward the significance of sacral clothing. The clergy and ministry in almost all major faiths wear special clothing. For Latter-day Saints, among whom there is no professional ministry, men and women from all walks of life share in the callings, responsibilities, and blessings of the priesthood. Their sacred clothing, representing covenants with God, is worn under rather than outside their street clothes.
