Q: Can I attend protestant church and sing at Catholic Church Choir?
Can I do that? What is the difference between protestant church and Catholic church? Which one is better?

A: Yes you can. And I'll have to say Protestantism is better. But Catholics of course would disagree. Look them up. It's too much 4 me to type.

Q: Can a Catholic person take communion in a Protestant church?
I was raised Catholic, so I know that Protestants cannot take communion in a Catholic church because they don't believe in the transubstantiation. But would it be wrong for a Catholic to take communion in a Protestant church?

A: Absolutely wrong!! That would be blasphemy. It would be submitting to the doctrines of men instead of Christ's teaching. This may help: St. Paul taught that we must discern the Body and the Blood of the Lord to receive the Eucharist. We must be prepared by faith, understanding and an examination of our conscience. This is the most holy moment for any Christian and we must be sure of our preparation as every aspect of our demeanor must be prepared to reflect the respect, solemnity and joy that are received at the reception of our Lord and Saviors real body and blood. This is the most extraordinary moment that anyone can experience on this earth. We are to be reminded of the words of the Centurion, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter my roof, but only say the word and my soul will be healed.” Is it possible to have open communion with those who do not share in our belief in the real corporeal presence of Christ in the Eucharist? Could we, in fact be harming those who we allow at the Lord's Table who do not discern the Lord's Body and Blood? Would we be contributing to them bringing condemnation on themselves by sharing the Eucharist with them? Certainly, I cannot receive or participate in Protestant communion where it is only symbolic as it makes a mockery of the Sacrament established by Christ. Under what circumstance do I believe that communion is possible in good conscience? When we share the same respect and reverence in knowing, that it is the Body and Blood of the living Christ that we adore and worship before we receive, then we can share communion. What do I mean by respect and reverence? We must be in a state of grace, one conscience of grave sin must not receive communion before the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As part of the preparation we must also fast prior to the receiving of the Eucharist. There must also be a union of doctrine and authority as the Sacrament is one of oneness with Christ and His Church, St. Paul taught that we are to be one Body and partake of one bread. This oneness includes the members of the Orthodox communities and certain Catholic communities not in full communion of authority but in agreement on doctrine. The Catholic and the Orthodox Church are to be seen as the two ”lungs” of the one Church of Christ. Unfortunately, it is impossible for communion with those ecclesiastical communities coming out of the Reformation because they lack a valid priesthood and a means to confect the Eucharist as well as the proper understanding of the sacrament. In Christ Fr. Joseph

Q: Does anyone know where I can find research on a Protestant West Virginia Church.?
I have to do a research paper on a Protestant Church the encourages the handling of live rattlesnakes and the drinking of poison during its services.

A: I don't know how much this helps, but at the bottom of the following link there are listings for these types of churches. There are a couple of them in WV.

Q: What was the name of the Protestant church the Nazis tried to start to replace the Lutheran Church?
Did it ever get off the ground? How far did Hitler get with his plan to make Germany a Christian nation with no more separation of church and state?

A: I know that the Nazis produced their own 'edited' version of the Bible. It removed all Jewish works and references from it. That leaves only a few chapters. :) They also "proved" that Jesus was of Aryan descent.

Q: What gospel song for a protestant church?
I need to sing a song in my United Methodist church but I love gospel and want to bring a little bit of it to my church. What would be a good song to sing? (I'm only 21 and don't have a super strong voice.)

A: I love Gospel. One of my favourites is "Oh Happy Day" it always gets people clapping and smiling.

Q: Did Henry VIII start the protestant church to marry Anne Boleyn?

A: Sometime after 1525, Henry VIII wanted an annulment from his first wife, Catharine of Aragon, so that he could marry Anne Boleyn. At this time, the Church of England was Roman Catholic under the control of the Pope in Rome Italy. But when the Pope refused to allow Henry to end his marriage to Catharine to marry Anne, Henry broke off communication with the Pope and changed the Church of England to the Anglican Church. The Anglican Church already existed in England at the time. So Henry did not start this religion. He just made it the official religion of England. It still remains as the Church of England today. It was Roman Catholic Priest Martin Luther, whose actions in 1517 started the long process that resulted in the Protestant Reformation. His wanted to reform the Roman Catholic Church which he percieved to be corrupt and mislead. The Pope excommunicated him from the Catholic Church in 1521 as a result. Since the Roman Catholic Church refused to be reformed, other denominations were created such as the Lutherans, Presbyterians and Baptists.

Q: Does anybody know of a protestant church with Saturday night services in the Metro Detroit area?
My church may not be meeting together any longer after the summer, and I work on Sunday mornings. I'm looking for a church in the Macomb or Oakland county areas. Links to church websites would be helpful. Looking for: * Contemporary worship * Relaxed dress code * Openness to the whole Emerging Church philosophy would be swell * Active and vital student ministry * Lack of legalism

A: http://www.kensingtonchurch.org/ Saturday Nights at 5:30 It's in Troy at 19 Mile (Square Lake) and John R It's a big church, you can't miss it. It sounds like exactly what you're asking about. What city are you in? I know of another similar church in Livonia, but since you're saying Oakland/Macomb I'm geussing that might be fire. I can find out for you if you'd like though.

Q: Is there any chance for reconciliation between the Catholic church and the Protestant churches?

A: when pigs fly

Q: How do the Protestant church and the Catholic church look different?
what differences are there inside the churches? thanks

A: Dear Ms. 70, "Protestant" covers a wide variety, but I'll give you my impression of the stereotypes of Protestant and Roman Catholic Church buildings. Roman Catholic Churches often look medieval, specifically Gothic in architecture, made of stone, with statues on the outside, several low towers, and a low spire with a cross on top of it . The floor plan is often cross-shaped. Protestant exteriors are often plainer, and the "Christmas Card" picture of a Protestant Church is a white-painted, clapboard building, with a single very tall spire at one end of the building without a cross. Inside, a Roman Catholic church building will have an altar towards the end opposite the main door, and formerly, two smaller side altars. In front of the altar, but over to the side, is a pulpit to preach the sermon. There will be tall candles on the altar, and possibly small candles in front of statues of Christ and the saints, for worshippers to light when there is no worship service going on. There is probably at least one hanging, glass enclosed candle. The windows are probably stained glass pictures of saints. In the back of the Church is a baptismal font, There may be other chapels which are smaller versions of the main Church. A protestant Church interior will have a very large pulpit at the opposite end of the Church from the front door. It might have a cross at that end, or a picture. Many protestant churches have pools for baptism under a cover which is part of the floor. If there is an altar, it may be in front of the pulpit but unlike in a Roman Catholic Church, it will have an opened Bible on it. This is VERY general. There are WIDE exceptions: Episcopal/Anglican, Lutheran, and other protestant churches may look just like my description of Roman Catholic Churches (mine does). Modern architectural design and rising building costs have made both kinds of churches look more similar. If it has a pulpit in front and NO altar or statues, and no cross on top , it is protestant, but not necessarily vice versa.

Q: Who is the creator of the Protestant Church?
Martin Luther started the Protestant reformation but those who believe him go by the name of Lutheran and those who believe Calvin also go by the name of Calvinist But those who Call themselves Protestant who did they believed in. Who was the founder or their belief. Also Puritans - who started them and who was their leader also right now i am confused between the terminology and i need to know them for my World History class

A: Luther, Calvin, Knox and the other so-called reformers were all protestors against certain doctrines and practices of the Catholic Church. All founded Churches we know as Protestant. They had in common the idea that every Christian can read the Bible and interpret it as they see fit. Lutherans interpret it one way, Presbyterians, another, Anglicans another, and so on. Quite a mess if you ask me! Puritans were English Christians who thought the Anglican Church was too "Roman" in doctrine and ceremony. They were eventually persecuted in England, and had to park in Holland for awhile, then migrated to New England.

Q: How did the Episcopal Church come into being and how is it different from Catholic or Protestant churches?

A: Episcopal church are not protestants. Study your history. Henry broke from the Roman Church because he could not get a divorce. Luther gave it to him. The next time Henry wanted a divorce Luther said that he was abusing divorce. Henry got upset and started his own church. Luther broke from the Roman Catholic Church because of theology. Henry broke away because he was diseased (VD) and could not father a boy child. Henry was a Man Whore who wanted to consolidate his power in England and in order to do this he murdered thousands of people. He also had his scribes rewrite history, extolling the virtues of his being a defender of the faith, (a title give to him by the pope when he did not follow Luther in the Protestant Reformation) There are two branches of the Anglican Church. There are High Anglicans who are almost Catholic in their beliefs. For example they there are nuns, they have the Rosary, they have statues, they believe in the presence of Christ in their eucharist. There is another branch of the Anglican Church that are called Low Anglicans and their beliefs are more in line with the protestant churches. Which country did the United States revolt against for their independence. Oh yah England, I guess it just would not do to have a Church of England in the United States after the Revolution. Even though I have disparaging remarks about Henry V, it is not what I think of people in the Anglican or Episcopalian Church.

Q: How did the protestant church get started??
I'm a protestant and....I'm just curious.

A: I am not Catholic (used to be as a kid-but now I know better) I learned a lot from the answers posted. I was just curious of the answers because I've always resented that catholic is catholic and EVERYTHING ELSE is protestant. I think thats highly self righteous of catholicism and overplays the validity (altho false) of catholicism. History and numbers of followers do not validate a false religion. Further, from the pope on down, I believe they know the truth which they withhold from their followers. If they loved their followers they would tell them the truth. They love the money. As I recall, it was a 365 days a year's worth of envelops given to followers, with bogus celebratory days noted on each envelop. You realize my concerns for catholic people is that they are being led to the slaughter. The pope is the only Catholic who can answer that charge. No followers of Catholicism can answer with absolute knowledge. Catholic or Protestant? Thats pretty lofty.
