A: sweetie, if you're a Baptist, then you're a protestant, too

Q: How do I find out what religion is closest to the Protestant religion?
I am a Protestant but I am not an active Protestant. I would like to go back to church and would like to know what religion is closest to the Protestant religion? I have only been to church a few times in my life but now have a lot of unanswered questions and would like to start going to church again. Another problem is that there is only one Protestant church within a 50 mile radius so any information would be helpful.

A: I would suggest that you go to a number of protestant churches and see what one truly goes by the bible. Protestants are from the reformation. The Lutheran church is the closet but i would go to others to find the one that will teach you the truths of the bible. The baptist can go back as far as the disciples. Most protestant independent churches are made up of former catholics.

Q: How did the Protestant religion embody the "Spirit" capitalism and allow capitalism to flourish?
This question sounds confusing...can somebody clear up my confusion...thanks in advance. =P

A: The Spirit of Capitalism and the Protestant Work Ethic - by Max Weber. Explains that Protestants believe that they are preordained to either heaven or hell (God knows before one is born). They also believe that God would only allow those going to heaven to be successful, and those going to hell would fail in life. So in order to show everyone that you are going to heaven you had to be successful, and one way to be successful is to work your butt off. The more success one has the more they can show that they are successful, through consumption, purchases, spending. This will make neighbors want to also show that they are "going to heaven" through showing success. Work creates the product, success consumes the product, the two things that drive capitalism. Voila.

Q: Protestant religion followers- Do you expect that one day we will all come to a perfect unity of the faith?
If so, wont all these various sects (calvinists, lutherans, anglicans, episcopals, etc...) All have to dissolve and we will all be made a part of the true Church of Jesus Christ?

A: I don't see where the protestant religions have a leg to stand on. their whole claim was that the catholic church had fallen away from the truth. therefore take it all and make something else? If the apple barrel is bad how do you take the apples out and call them good? If the catholic church was wrong and had not followed the authority of the apostles in maintaining Christs church how did they gain this authority to act in Gods name? The logic does not follow. If the catholic church was established by the apostles and passed their priesthood authority to the pope then the protestants would have to claim authority from the catholic church. On the other hand there are those who claim the authority to run the church was lost since the apostles died long before the catholic church was established by a non christian in Constantine. This authority being lost follows the same pattern through out time, Moses was given authority to lead the Jews out of captivity, he bacame the prophet or mouth piece for God. As in the past this authority was restored to the earth through revelation, since God is the same yesterday, today and forever revelation must continue when there is one worthy to receive it. All of this rambling, I apologize for the rambling, points to either the catholic church is true because of continued authority OR the authority was lost and must be restored. Paul prophecied of this apostacy or falling away when he discussed the return of the Savior in 2 Thes. 2: 3 "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition" So if the catholic church is the church of Christ as established when he was here, when will this falling away happen and this would point to the catholic church being doomed to fall away into obscurity. This does give some hope for the protestant churches if they had claimed that the church had been lost and now restored. But they are not restorationist they are reformist's HUGE difference. There are many churches that claim some sort of divine intervention in their beginnings. One claims that the group was moved upon by the Holy Spirit and then they became a congregation of believers. There is only one church that claims restoration with the authority received from Peter, James and John by the laying on of hands. Also the keys of gathering Israel as given to Isaiah. The Priesthood being restored first by John the Baptist in the Aaronic priesthood to baptize for the remission of sins and the restoration of the Melchizedek priestood to do all things in Gods name. The priesthood is restored, the gospel is here in its entiretly, not to be broken and lost again. Unity can be had in the gospel of Jesus Christ through love and not force. The gospel as it is restored is found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Q: What did elizabeth tudor do for the catholic and protestant religion?
what was the things did she do for the catholic relion

A: she promoted religious tolerance. She said she did not want to make "windows into men's souls" She did not care what they believed.

Q: Why do people refer to the "protestant" religion?
As I understand it, protestant just means non-Catholic. This would include widely different beliefs, from Universalism to God Hates Fags. Is there a different definition of protestant that I am missing?

A: Protestantism derived from the "protesters" of the Catholic faith, The movement arose in the sixteeth century in Europe to "reform" the Roman Catholic Church traced to former Augustinian monk Martin Luther. Protestants reject papal authority and the authority of the Catholic Church. The word itself is derived from the Latin pro, meaning "for," and testare, meaning "witness." Thus literally, if one was to be a protestant it would mean he or she would be a witness for something. The word was first used in 1529 as part of Martin Luther's reform movement. Others believe it derived from the Latin protestari meaning publicly declare which refers to the letter of protestation by Lutheran princes against the decision of the Diet of Speyer in 1529, which reaffirmed the edict, at the Diet of Worms banning Luther's documents. Since that time, the term Protestantism has been used in many different senses, often as a general term to refer to Western Christianity that is not subject to Papal authority, ie, as you say, non-Catholic.

Q: What is the basic differences between Catholic and Protestant religion?
So many wars and skirmishes throughout history have been fought for those 2 religions. Please no answers about any other religions. What I mean is the basic tenets of these sects that so many people fight over from the begining of history

A: Catholicism believes it is the one and only true path to Christ. Protestants, well, Protest that.

Q: Why did Martin Luther try to reform the protestant religion?
did it have to do with john calvin?

A: Firstly: He did not try with the Protestantism, it did not exist by then. It evolved after the reformation. Furthermore: It is not an religion, but a form of Christianity, like Catholisism or Anglicanism. Thirdly: Calvin was French. He was not involved in Luthers reformation, but his work resulted in the evolving of Calvinism. He was one of the three most important Protestant Reformers. Luther in Germany (Protestantism), Zwingli in Switzerland (Reformed Churches) and Calvin in France/Switzerland (Calvinism).

Q: Why is protestant religion superior to the Catholic Religion in the time of Martin Luther?

A: Your question is better suited to history or religion/spirituality sections. But if you read why Luther did what he did, and what he said in his 95 theses, you will see he is trying to reform what is "wrong" with the way the church is operating, not trying to start a new denomination.

Q: How long does it take to convert to Catholicism from a Protestant religion?

A: You will have to attend a series of RCIA courses first. You will also need to be baptized (if you haven't been already) and confirmed. It's not an automatic process. The time can vary depending upon the person. I know one man who was kept waiting for a few years because the priest felt he wasn't ready, but normally, it goes much quicker than that. The courses will take several months. Figure on the whole process taking around a year, maybe a bit more or a bit less, depending upon your situation.

Q: What is the protestant religion based on?

A: Its based on sola scriptura.

Q: How successful was Elizabeth 1 at solving the Protestant vs Catholic religion issue?

A: *is Catholic* If you consider imprisoning, murdering, and outlawing Catholics successful the answer is very.

Q: What is are the basics in the religion protestant?
and what are the beliefs HELP ME i need ur help pleez

A: "For God so loved the world he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 That is what the Protestant faith is based upon. They believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit as being co-eternal and co-equal (as do Catholics). They believe that the Bible is the holy and inspired word of God. They believe that the only way to God is through Christ Jesus, and him resurrected. Protestants are Christians who have repented, been baptised and put their faith and their trust in God, Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Bible. I'm not up on Church History, but suffice to say that the Protestant faith came about after Martin Luther protested against the Holy Roman Catholic Church's belief that you could pay money to the church to be absolved of sin. Protestants do not accept that the Pope is infallible or God's spokesman. Martin Luther died a horrible death at the hands of the Catholic church for daring to defy the authority of the church and the Pope. Some people may try to persuade you that Protestants are not Christians. The Bible tells us that only God knows who are his and it is wrong to judge each other. 'The Church' as described in the New Testament, is not an organisation, or a building - it is made up of people who have given their lives to Christ. For any Christian to claim that they, and only they, are the one and only true Christian religion, is to fall into the trap of judging others. Every single one of us will be judged by God - it is to Him we shall all answer for our every thought, word and deed.

Q: How many nations in the world now that is dominated by Protestant religion? RC religion? Muslim religion ?
As if the Bible believing protestants, making the Bible as the sole authority in their faith and practice are the most blessed nations in the world historically, scientifically, and philosophically, for more than 2000 years already.

A: I think the site below might help answer your questions. I've found it to be reasonably balanced, working very much off statistics rather than any particular belief.

Q: explain predestination and identify which major protestant religion formulated its beliefs off of this belief?

A: Predestination was the idea that when we were born, it was already chosen for us whether we would go to heaven or hell. Sort of the opposite of the idea of free will. John Calvin was a believer of this, and the Puritans that eventually came to America believed in this concept.
